Livecompare provides services to identify the most economic grocery stores. The participants only need to take pictures of a product’s price tag and its barcode. The barcode is decoded into a textual representation on the mobile phone, and transferred to the server along with capture time, location information, and the picture displaying the current price. To compare prices, participants can search for products in the application, which then retrieves the corresponding price reports, selects the stores in proximity of the participant’s current location and displays the pictures of the corresponding price tags.
